Procedural artifacts
Though the University Archives largely consists of print materials, such as records and publications, we also serve as a repository for many of the university’s treasured objects. This graduation mace was commissioned by UMBC’s Alumni Association for outgoing chancellor John Dorsey in 1986. It has been carried by the Grand Marshall (usually the Faculty Senate President) in every UMBC graduation ceremony since.
